The JBL OnBeat Rumble is yet another offering from JBL targeted to users of the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini with the latest lightning connector. This speaker dock does not support the larger iPad sibling though but it can hook up wirelessly via Bluetooth to other devices.
This is a bulky speaker but it’s warranted for as it houses a 4.5 inch downward firing subwoofer with 2 forward facing drivers. Over at the top are 5 buttons such as power, Bluetooth, volume as well as Bass and Club modes. The overall construction is of good grade plastic and there’s also a USB port plus a 3.5mm auxiliary-in port for your extra media players.
How’s the sound you may ask which is the main criteria in a speaker dock. The big downfiring subwoofer plays its part well giving you rich, deep and clear bass that does not distort even at high volume levels. Mid-tones and treble were crisp.
The JBL OnBeat Rumble is a bit expensive selling for $399.95 at Amazon but as long as Apple does not change the connector again, this will be your party gadget for a long time. Check out the video close-up below:-
